Mr. Shewchuk brings a strong quantitative background to his work with Nichols Applied Management. He has experience in econometric modeling and real option analysis with a focus on the energy sector.
Since joining Nichols Applied Management, his work has focused on socio-economic impact assessments in support of regulatory applications of in situ, mining, and upgrader oil sands projects in throughout Alberta. His involvement with these studies generally includes the analysis of the impacts of industrial development on the regional economy including the local labour market, municipal infrastructure, housing market, and social services. Pearce has also been involved in developing workforce housing and transportation strategies for upgrader projects in the Alberta Industrial Heartland. Other energy industry-related projects include an analysis of carbon capture and storage (CSS) associated with in situ oil sands facilities, a survey of the demand for hospital services linked to work camps, and other ad-hoc analyses.
Pearce is also active in the firm’s evaluation and general management consulting practice. Most recently he has been involved with the evaluation of Alberta Access, Improvement, Measures (AIM) initiative on behalf of the primary health care initiative partners in Alberta and the forecasting of capital expenditure requirements for Alberta’s primary and secondary schools on behalf of Alberta Education. Mr. Shewchuk has also participated in the development of municipal growth management strategies and a review of off-site levies in selected communities throughout Alberta.
In addition to his work with Nichols Applied Management, Pearce is also a sessional instructor in the Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology at the University of Alberta where he teaches undergraduate courses in economic impact assessment, production economics, and linear programming.
